Company History

Gabel Equipment has been a family owned business for over 35 years. When you deal with Gabel Equipment, you deal with the founder and owners. In all our years of service, we have built up a reputation for offering consistently reliable, professional, and friendly care to our tri-state family of customers.

Paul and Christopher Gabel
The company’s origins coincide with that period in the broader American culture when the need for stand-by power systems was only beginning to be recognized. Founded by Paul V. Gabel, whose earlier career path had been centered in research neuro- physiology and the sophisticated medical technology it mandated, GEC blossomed under his expert knowledge of machinery and the diagnostic skills needed to manage complex systems.

In 1970, Gabel Equipment Corporation was incorporated as a New York State business headquartered in Mamaroneck, New York. During its initial growth phase Gabel Equipment allied itself with a number of well established and nationally recognized firms such as Automatic Switch Company (ASCO), Zenith Controls, Inc., LaMarche Manufacturing, Simplex, Kim and Universal, to name a few. These companies formed a support and supply system which allowed Gabel Equipment Corporation to provide both prompt service and superior products to its customers.

Gabel Equipment Corporation was one of the few companies that, in the early 1970’s, urged the nursing home industry to adopt a uniform protocol for generator and switch gear maintenance. Throughout the years, GEC has striven to maintain this level of leadership and example in the industry and currently services over 300 customers each year – industrial as well as private.

In 1986 the company moved to Port Chester, New York, where it is still located virtually at the crossroads of Route 287 West to Westchester and Rockland, Interstate 95 North to Connecticut, and Interstate 95 South to NYC, New Jersey and Long Island. This proximity to all major corridors, as well as its central location, allows GEC to service its customers with maximum efficiency.

In 2002, GEC was recognized for its industry leadership by being appointed a sub-dealer for Caterpillar Olympian generators. This latest affiliation forms a significant increase to the level of options offered to its customers. Also, in 2002, Christopher J. Gabel, Paul Gabel's son, joined Gabel Equipment Corp. as a Certified Industrial Service Technician for Cummins/Onan Industrial generators. And, as of April 2009, Christopher J. Gabel became president of Gabel Equipment Corp.

For two generations Gabel Equipment Corporation has sought to establish, develop, and plan a business and a legacy.
